Hot off the heels of his gorgeous 2010 ‘Fugazi’ and the striking 2011 ‘186’, Taras Ochota has released a formidable new drop… could these electrfying wines from Taras be the new “benchmark” for Grenache?! From what was supposed to be a terrible vintage, the 2011 ‘Fugazi’ delivers all that we loved about the 2010 yet with more aromatics and lift. If you haven’t seen what Taras Ochota has been putting together then we strongly suggest you get on down to find out the fuss…

The versatility of Grenache is well known to the wine industry but not known well enough with the public. Grenache lends itself to food incredibly well and is generall an easy going drink. The issue of the past has been with poor winemaking and the interpretations therein. Thankfully it’s a global market and we’re seeing better wines than ever – including these guys. But the real trick here is the fact the wines below are all medium weight and more “Rhone” in style. Heavenly… - International Wine Cellar (USA) by Josh Raynolds – July 2012
2011 Grenache Fugazi Vineyard Mclaren Vale (made from vines planted in 1947)
Bouquet of fresh red berries, Asian spices and potpourri, with a smoky overtone. Silky and sweet on the palate, offering intense strawberry and raspberry flavors that gain weight with air. Closes with sexy spicecake and floral pastille qualities and superb clarity. There’s something pinot-like going on here.
2010 Shiraz Shellac Vineyard Barossa Valley
Vivid ruby. Intense, spice-accented aromas of red berry preserves, cherry pit, incense and violets. Juicy, penetrating and pure, offering an array of red fruit and floral flavors lifted by zesty acidity. Closes with excellent clarity and length, leaving a candied violet note behind.
